Baileo
About the studio
Baileo - Tanzpassion Leipzig is a 450 m2 dance school in the heart of Leipzig, founded in 2017 by Janine Edler and Meylem Gonzalez and named from a blend of the Spanish 'bailar' (to dance) and Leipzig. The school is one of the city's most comprehensive dance hubs, teaching everyone from 3-year-olds up to 81-year-old students across an unusually wide repertoire. Latin styles are the backbone of the programme, with weekly Salsa Cubana, Salsa Linea, Salsa on2 (Mambo), Bachata, Kizomba (Urban Kizz / Fusion), Rueda de Casino and Afro-Cuban courses at every level from absolute beginner to advanced. The studio also runs ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, breaking, k-pop, dance fitness, Zumba and even baby mambo and yoga classes. Two regular monthly socials anchor the calendar: 'Noche Baileo' on the second Saturday of every month (21:00-02:00) and 'Salsalon' on the first Sunday (18:00-21:30), supported by recurring beginner workshops on the first weekend of every month. Drop-ins, beginner workshops and a 29 EUR trial month make Baileo extremely beginner-friendly, and partners are not required to enrol. The school is led by an international team of long-standing salsa, bachata, kizomba, ballet and contemporary teachers, several of whom regularly perform and teach at international festivals.
Founded in 2017 by Meylem Gonzalez (Cuban-born ballet soloist and salsa teacher) and Janine Edler (latin and salsa specialist) in central Leipzig at Dittrichring 17. The two founders met through their shared salsa passion despite very different dance backgrounds. The school occupies a 450 m2 multi-studio space and has been celebrated locally for its broad cross-generational programme. In 2026 Baileo celebrated its 9th anniversary, marked with a special 99 EUR birthday flatrate. The school has received public funding through the German federal government's NEUSTART KULTUR programme and the DIS-TANZEN initiative of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
