About The Cubby Bear
The Cubby Bear is a Chicago institution: open since 1953 and sitting directly across from Wrigley Field, it is a sprawling 30,000 square foot live-music and sports venue with multiple bars and a big main floor. Every Sunday it hosts Salsa Sundays, a long-running Latin night that opens around 7:00 PM. A dance class kicks things off, then the floor opens to open-format social dancing across Salsa, Bachata and related styles. The cover is 15 dollars cash and includes the lesson.
Music comes from resident DJ Saffiro with rotating guest DJs, and the night periodically features live Salsa bands, a natural fit given the venue's concert pedigree. The big floor and welcoming, all-levels crowd make it easy for solo dancers and newcomers to jump in after the lesson. Expect a roomy, energetic Wrigleyville atmosphere rather than an intimate studio, with bars on hand and space to move.
