Next Generation Salsa
About the studio
Next Generation Salsa (NG Salsa) is a Cuban dance school in central Budapest that has been teaching Cuban salsa, casino, timba, son, rumba and Afro-Cuban movement for more than 15 years. The school is led by husband-and-wife team Marci and Panni Váradi-Szabó, who built NG Salsa around the idea that a dance school should be a real community rather than just a place for steps. Weekly group courses run Monday through Thursday at the studio on Osvát utca 9 in District VII, with a clear progression from Absolute Beginner (Kezdő 1) all the way through to a high-level Advanced course, plus dedicated Lady Style, Men Style and Rumba Cubana classes. Drop-ins cost 3,000 HUF for 60-minute classes and 4,500 HUF for 90-minute classes, with multi-class passes and a 30,000 HUF unlimited monthly VIP pass available. Beginners are explicitly welcomed and the school points out that students typically jump into Budapest's Cuban salsa parties almost as soon as the basics are covered. NG Salsa also co-organises the annual Si!ng Cuban Salsa Festival each summer in Cserkeszőlő together with the Cuba Sí team, and runs regular Cervezando Cuban salsa parties, practice evenings and free open days. The team of eight instructors and trainees teaches in Hungarian, with English available given the international student base.
NG Salsa was founded in Budapest by Marci and Panni Váradi-Szabó with the dream of creating a Cuban dance school where dancers could find more than just lessons — a community in the same way their own friends and family had grown up around dance. Although they were not born into Cuban culture, salsa, casino, timba, son, rumba and Afro-Cuban dances have been part of their lives for over 15 years. The school has expanded into a full team of eight instructors and trainees and is now also a co-organiser of the Si!ng Cuban Salsa Festival, with strong involvement in summer camps and international Cuban salsa festivals.
