About the studio
Kubáname is an authentic Cuban dance school in the Elbepark district of Dresden, founded to bring Cuban dances, Caribbean flair and southern lightness to the city. The school's core focus is Salsa Cubana (also called Casino or Salsa de la Calle), taught alongside Son, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bachata, Reggaeton, Rumba and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Co-founded with Cuban professional dancer Yorge from Havana and his partner Steffi, a longtime fixture of the Dresden salsa scene, the school emphasises feeling the music, finding your own style, and learning to lead and follow as a true team. Courses run in eight-week blocks (split into two 4-week sub-blocks of 50 EUR each) covering Basico I–IV, Intermedio I–III and Avanzado levels, plus dedicated Bachata, Rueda de Casino and Son Cubano programmes. Active students enjoy free entry to the Friday Übungsabend practice nights, and a Premium membership at 100 EUR per month grants unlimited access to all classes, workshops and parties. The school regularly hosts Kubáname Salsa Parties with live shows, Rueda animations and a Cuban-leaning DJ set, and stages the Kubáname Salsa Festival, whose third edition (October 2026) celebrates the school's 10th anniversary with a Leoni Torres concert at Dresden Airport. Beginners are warmly welcomed and no partner is required to enrol.
The school grew out of the founders' personal love of Cuban dance after multiple dance trips to Havana, where they first encountered Yorge during a Rueda class. After meeting him again in Dresden by chance, they invited him to relocate as a dancer and instructor. It took roughly a year to arrange contracts, paperwork and visas before Kubáname opened to bring authentic Cuban salsa, son and rumba to Dresden. Operated as Kubáname GmbH (managing director Heiko Haupt) and headquartered at Lommatzscher Straße 82 in the Elbepark, the school is celebrating its 10th anniversary in October 2026 and is hosting its third Kubáname Salsa Festival to mark the milestone.

Cuban dancer and choreographer from Havana. Started dancing salsa at age 12 and became a professional dancer by 19, working with various Cuban dance companies. He also studied mechanical engineering. Previously taught at Viadanza Tanzreisen in Havana, instructing European visitors in salsa, son, rumba, cha-cha-cha, mambo and other Cuban rhythms. Performs traditional son with legendary Cuban bands such as Sierra Maestra and Caña Santa (successor bands to Buena Vista Social Club). Brings the energy and joy of Cuba to Dresden.
Well-known figure in the Dresden salsa scene, dancing salsa since 2005 across LA Style, New York Style and Cuban Style. Through participation in many national and international salsa events she has built a reputation as an excellent dancer beyond Dresden. She has worked as an instructor for salsa partnerwork, salsa lady styling and bachata. Steffi supports Yorge in most courses and leads the bachata classes and many workshops.
