Salsakompaniet

Salsakompaniet is Norway's largest and most established salsa and Latin dance organisation, based in central Oslo and operating from two studios at Mariboes gate 8 (Melahuset/MELA) and Møllergata 40 (M40). Founded in 1999, it has grown from a private dance school into a non-profit, member-owned sports club affiliated with Norges Danseforbund (the Norwegian Dance Federation) since 2016, welcoming more than 2,000 students each year. The school runs eight-week courses on Mondays through Thursdays in salsa (Cuban and On1), mambo (Salsa On2), bachata, bachata sensual, bachazouk and Brazilian zouk, with progressions from beginner to advanced and dedicated lady styling and footwork classes. No partner or prior experience is required, and partners are rotated during class so solo students can join easily. Tuition is delivered by a team of more than ten resident and visiting instructors led by Dixie Cardenas, Bjørn Are Therkelsen, Steeve Oagi and Nalini Løver, with bachata sensual specialist Jesus Ortiz visiting from abroad. Beyond classes, Salsakompaniet hosts the long-running Monday Latin Night social at Melahuset every week, a Bachata Night every other Thursday, and frequent workshops and training camps with international guest teachers. The organisation's classes and communications are delivered mainly in English to accommodate Oslo's international dance community.

Founded in 1999 in Oslo as a dance school dedicated to salsa and Latin dance, Salsakompaniet became a non-profit, member-owned sports club and was officially recognised by Norges Danseforbund (the Norwegian Dance Federation) in 2016. Over more than 25 years it has grown into Norway's largest salsa and Latin dance organisation, having taught thousands of dancers and now welcoming more than 2,000 students annually across two Oslo studios.
