Gilkisons Dance Studio

Gilkisons is a teaching-first dance studio housed in a heritage Murray Street building — you enter through large double wooden doors topped with mounted taxidermy, drop down a flight to reception and descend again into a high-ceilinged main hall with a wooden dance floor. The setup feels like a ballroom school rather than a late-night club: classes run most evenings and the same hall becomes a social after lessons.

Expect salsa and bachata on weekday nights (Wednesday–Friday) with Friday the busiest social. Socials usually start straight after the evening classes, so the crowd is mostly students and local regulars; reviews note partners aren’t required.
