About the studio

Tumbao Danzas is a Berlin dance school founded by Leslie Andoh-Wilson (known on the scene as Ando) that specialises in Kizomba, Salsa, Bachata and Reggaeton with a contemporary, urban edge. Rather than running its own studio, the school operates as a roving project across three established Berlin venues: Ballettstudio Annett Fellmann in Wilmersdorf on Mondays and Wednesdays, Aziza Tanzt in Prenzlauer Berg on Tuesdays, and Motions Tanzstudio in Kreuzberg on Thursdays. Its current weekly programme is heavily Kizomba-focused, covering everything from beginner to advanced and technical-steps levels for couples, with regular weekend intensives and workshops in Bachata, Reggaeton and Kizomba alongside private lessons and bootcamps. The teaching philosophy mixes salsa and bachata with influences from hip-hop, breakdance and freestyle, encouraging students to feel the music and develop their own personal groove rather than memorise rigid choreographies. Courses run in fixed sequences of seven sessions (60 or 90 minutes), with discounted rates for students and partner-couples. Founder Leslie has been teaching since 2005 and is a regular presenter and DJ at festivals across Germany and Europe (Berlin Kizzes, KizombaKongress NRW, Bachata Festival Munich, Amsterdam International Congress, among others). Beginners are welcome and partners can be matched on request, making Tumbao Danzas a solid entry point into Berlin's kizomba and Latin dance scenes for both solo dancers and couples.

Founded by Leslie Andoh-Wilson in November 2010 after he had taught at the Salsa Tanzakademie (2005-2008) and Tanzfluss Tanzstudio Bremen (2008-2010). Originally rooted in the Bremen salsa scene, the school relocated/expanded to Berlin and currently teaches across three partner studios in different Berlin districts. Damla Peker joined the team as a Kizomba/Urban Kizomba trainer (active in the dance since late 2016).

Founder and head trainer of Tumbao Danzas. Began teaching his own courses in late 2005, focusing on helping students develop their personal groove rather than rigid step sequences. Has performed and taught at international festivals including Amsterdam International Congress, the 5th Bachata Festival Munich, Berlin Kizzes, KizombaKongress NRW (Solingen), and many others; also active as a kizomba DJ.

Damla Peker
Kizomba and Urban Kizomba

Has been dancing kizomba and later urban kizomba since late 2016, having come to it via salsa and tango. Describes urban kizomba as more than a dance: an expression of feelings, listening, balance between tension and release, and connection. After repeated requests from students to teach, she began passing on the knowledge she has built up over years of dedicated study, focusing on body awareness, lead/follow dynamics and musical interpretation.
