About the studio

LatinSalsa is a Latin-American dance school in Cologne run by Costa Rican dancer, psychologist and sports scientist Natalia Pacheco Morales. The school specialises in Salsa (Cuban, Puerto Rican / On1, On2 and L.A. style) and Bachata (Dominicana, Moderna and Sensual), and also covers Merengue, Bolero, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Kizomba, Brazilian Zouk, West Coast Swing, Rueda de Casino and Zumba. Group courses run as 4-week beginner blocks (currently a Monday 21:00 Salsa beginner course at Severinstorburg with Ronaldo Rivas Izaguirre, 29 EUR for the full block) and beginners can drop in at any time without a partner. On top of regular courses LatinSalsa offers private lessons, customised bachelorette and wedding programmes, intensive workshops such as the 'Power-Retreat Connection & Dance' weekend, and annual Costa Rica dance trips that combine classes with a cultural beach holiday. The teaching team is unusually large for an owner-led school and includes German, Latin American and Indian instructors, plus two resident DJs who play Cologne's biggest Latin nights. The school markets itself with a 'love-of-dance', small-group, individual-feedback approach and offers a free trial class as well as gift vouchers for single lessons, courses and workshops.

LatinSalsa was founded by Natalia Pacheco Morales after she moved from Costa Rica to Germany. Natalia was profiled by ProntoPro in 2019 and earlier in a 2010 audio interview about her teaching, and the school's news archive on the website goes back to 2015 with workshop, course and Costa Rica trip announcements. Long-time team members Sam Ganon (teaching since 1997) and Guido Tesch (teaching since 2004) have been part of the LatinSalsa orbit for many years; Ronaldo Rivas Izaguirre joined the team in 2018 ('Welcome to Cologne, Ronaldo' news post), Sam Ganon and Ronaldo launched new courses together in 2019, and the partnership of Sabrina and Colin around Sensual Bachata has been active since 2021. The school has run weekly practice parties at TOR 28 in Cologne (referenced 2018) and continues to run annual Costa Rica dance trips.
